Frequently Asked Questions

Question: So. What is a PYGMYurl?

A PYGMYurl is nothing more than a tiny URL that's automatically created for any long internet link you provide.

Question: Why do you call them Pygmies?

All the "great" tiny url website names were already taken, so we got stuck with Pygmies. But, even being short, they do the same thing and last a very long time just like the big guys.

Question: How does it work?

Technically, it's a redirect. We store the original, long, url in our database and when anyone clicks on our smaller link it automatically sends them to the original URL. All such services work in the same fashion.

Question: How long did it take you to think up such a ridiculous website name anyway?

A short while.

Question: Why would I need to use it?

Convenience and accuracy. Long links have a bad habit of breaking up in e-mails or internet postings. The link will be shown, but many times it's not usable. Shorter URL's are easier to send or post without breaking up. It's also easier for people to copy and paste a short URL than a long one.

Question: But doesn't every tiny url site provide convenience and accuracy?

Yes. But they are very boring and Pygmies are very fun. When you start passing around Pygmies, people are probably going to be laughing at you for a very long time.

Question: How do you measure up to the better known tiny url sites?

We don't try to. They just keep stepping all over us.

Question: Why doesn't my Pygmy go directly to the site instead of showing a connect page?

It's sort of a preview feature that helps keep the spammers away. Legitimate users won't typically mind the short delay. And if the link looks questionable, there's time to back out before they connect to the actual site.

Question: I made a Pygmy awhile back, but now I've lost it. What can I do?

Tie some bells to your shoes and be careful where you step.

Question: Aw, come on. That was corny. Can't you be serious?

Okay. When you create a Pygmy, you're immediately given an email option. Take advantage of it and we'll send you a short message with your link details. Just keep the email in a safe place.

Question: I'm a legitimate internet user. How long will my PYGMYurl last?

Active Pygmies hardly ever expire. As long as there's activity on your Pygmy, it will last forever. If 2 years pass with no clicks, it will be deleted.

Question: I'm a spammer. How long will my PYGMYurl last?

If legitimate spam or abuse is reported to us, your offending Pygmy will be replaced with a page explaining that it violated our terms of service. Our advertisers will be happy with the extra traffic and you'll have wasted a lot of your time.

Question: Somebody has ignored the last answer and is annoying me with offensive Pygmies. What can I do about it?

Please use our Report Abuse contact page. If it's in violation, we will terminate the Pygmy within 72 hours, usually sooner and sometimes a bit longer. The redirect will be permanently replaced with a special page we have just for evil Pygmies. We will also block the creator from using our service in the future. Rest assured that there will be no period of mourning, as we hate bad Pygmies as much as anybody.
